Young
Farmer Institute Rolls Along
Farm
Credit West began a Young Farmer Institute in March 2000. The institute
is an educational opportunity for young agribusiness people, allowing
for greater insight into contemporary management topics and networking
with peers. The "Class of 2006" is the seventh class in the program.
The Institute is held on the Central Coast of California. Professors from
the Agribusiness Department at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo,
as well as Farm Credit West staff and local agribusiness professionals
present topics and lead discussions. The institute, a 2-year program,
is designed for young farmers, ranchers, dairymen, and agribusiness men/women
that are:
- In
a position of ever increasing responsibilities in existing and viable
operations.
- In
a position to someday have a vested interest therein and/or currently
hold positions in management.
- Individuals
that have obtained a college education, or in the absence of such, have
demonstrated management ability/potential and understand operational
business needs.
- Individuals
who possess basic computer literacy and use of spreadsheet and financial
software.
- Individuals
who are willing and able to commit to a two-year program (up to one
week per year) and if married, support spousal participation in the
