Young Farmer / Rancher Executive Institute
Update: The Young Farmer/Rancher Institute has been cancelled for 2021 due to COVID-19. It will return in 2022.
Farm Credit West recognizes that preserving the future of agriculture means ensuring young farmers, ranchers and agribusiness professionals have a strong business management and financial knowledge base. As such, we annually host leadership training opportunities and financial management seminars focused on helping these young agricultural operators survive – and thrive.
In 2000, Farm Credit West established the Young Farmer/Rancher Executive Institute, designed to give less experienced professionals insights into contemporary management topics and provide networking opportunities with their peers.
The three-day Institute is held on California’s Central Coast. Professors from the Agribusiness Department at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, as well as Farm Credit West staff and local agribusiness professionals, present topics and lead discussions. This program is designed for young agricultural operators who are:
- Farm Credit West customers and/or their adult children, between the ages of 21 and 35.
- In a position of increasing responsibilities in existing and viable operations.
- In a position to someday have a vested interest therein and/or currently hold positions in management.
Since its inception, the Institute has graduated more than 271 professionals, providing these individuals with a strong foundation, and the knowledge to manage all available resources for business success.
