Supporting Today's Ag Youth
At Farm Credit West, we believe strongly that we must support the future generation of farmers and ranchers. That's why we attend several Jr. Livestock Auctions in our territory each year. These auctions are a great way for young people to be exposed to the business of Agriculture. The auction is made up of market animals that are selected, fed and shown by 4-H and FFA members as well as Independent youth, who have competed in 4-H and FFA market divisions.
Buyers like Farm Credit West are crucial for the success of the Junior Livestock Auction. With the support of Buyers, all of the youth exhibitors hard work pays off if they can make enough money to cover their expenses or more. For most exhibitors, the money earned from selling their market animal is saved into a college fund or to help support them with their next project. This process helps teach the students the benefits of planning, financial responsibility, and hard work.
We believe that supporting our youth Ag community will be mutually beneficial both today, and in the future. The ag community must prepare for the eventual turnover to the next generation of farmers and ranchers. If they receive the proper support early, they will have the tools that they need to succeed.
